Meet alumni Karen Gillies
Meet Karen Gillies, a highly motivated and passionate mature-aged nursing graduate. Karen has navigated a unique journey to achieve remarkable milestones in her nursing career. Despite the challenges that come with balancing family commitments and responsibilities, her passion for lifelong learning has demonstrated outstanding skills in nursing.
Meet the speaker
Amanda, a nursing professional and educator, graduated with a Bachelor of Nursing from ECU in 1999 and later completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Critical Care. She gained significant clinical experience in rural areas and emergency departments, working closely with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
Amanda holds a PhD and teaches Cultural Studies at a Masters level, also coordinating the Master of Nursing Graduate Entry course.
Her teaching areas include Cultural Diversity, Clinical Skills, Foundations of Nursing, and Culture and Health. Her research interests cover the transition to nursing, preceptorship, and the international student experience, with a focus on reciprocal learning. Amanda is involved in several projects aimed at enhancing nursing education and practice.
