Welcome from the Dean
Dr. Anne Coffey
Welcome to the School of Education and, more broadly, to the Faculty of Education and Philosophy and Theology. It is an honour to be able to acknowledge your choice of teaching as a career. The decision to become a teacher is one that can never be taken lightly as your potential to impact the students in your care can most likely never be truly measured.
Within the School of Education, you will have the opportunity to learn in a real community environment comprised of experienced and passionate lecturers, administration staff and peers. Along with the many formal and informal opportunities to work in schools you will be uniquely placed to connect your formal on-campus learning with the authentic context of the school. At Notre Dame you will spend more time in schools than at other universities. This helps you to be truly ‘classroom ready’ at the conclusion of your degree, which is acknowledged in the wonderful reputation our graduates enjoy in the government, Catholic and independent school sectors. The opportunity to augment your studies in education with courses in philosophy, ethics and theology is a contributing factor in helping to distinguish Notre Dame graduates from others.
On behalf of the School I extend the invitation to avail yourself of all of the opportunities that you will have at Notre Dame. We are committed to truly making a difference in the community and it is through the wonderful efforts of our students that we can achieve this goal.
