“AI and the Quest for Wisdom” Essay Prizes
In conjunction with the upcoming AI and the Quest for Wisdom conference, the University of Notre Dame Australia invites submissions for two essay prizes of $1000 each. One prize is reserved for students currently enrolled in a higher degree by research programme, while the other prize is open to all applicants. These prizes are open to both Australian and international applicants.
Additional information
To be eligible for consideration, essays must fulfil the following criteria:
- Must be 4000-5000 words total (excluding bibliography)
- Must not contain the entrant’s name within the essay
- Must not already be published or under consideration for publication
- Must be written without the use of AI, and
- Must address one of the following conference themes:
- AI and society
A general stream for reflecting on the social, cultural and political implications of a range of AI applications and potential future developments. - Philosophical and theological engagements with AI
A stream for exploring the significance or implications of AI from specific philosophical or theological perspectives. - Re-imagining teaching in a world with AI
A stream for exploring the promises and pitfalls of AI in the context of higher education, with a focus on pedagogical theory and practice.

Prizewinners will be expected to present their papers at the conference to be held at UNDA, Sydney campus on 9 May 2025. Depending on location they may present virtually, however their registration will be complimentary and reasonable travel costs up to $1000 will be reimbursed in addition to the cash prize.

To enter, please email your full submission as a PDF to Victoria Lorrimar by 28 March 2025, indicating which prize you are applying for.
Applicants will be notified of the outcome by 11 April 2025.
